Valls elected president of district attorneys association

Limestone County District Attorney Kristi Valls, one of three female district attorneys in the state, has been named president of the Alabama District Attorneys Association.

Elections were held June 30 at the association’s annual summer meeting in Sandestin, Fla.

Valls has served previously as a member at large, secretary-treasurer and vice president.

She has been Limestone County’s district attorney since 1999, when she replaced Jimmy Fry.

Other officers elected at the meeting are: Tommy Smith, Tuscaloosa County DA, vice president; Chris McCool, Fayette, Lamar, Pickens counties DA, secretary-treasurer; Steve Marshall, Marshall County DA, immediate past president; Joe Hubbard, Calhoun and Cleburne counties, National District Attorneys Association board representative.

Members at large are: Steve Giddens of Talladega County; Michael Jackson of Dallas, Hale, Perry and Wilcox counties; Tommy Chapman of Conecuh and Monroe counties; Greg Gambril of Covington County; Jimmie Harp of Etowah County; and Ken Davis of Russell County.

The 12-member committee creates policy and guidelines to provide training, programs and services for successful prosecutions.
