A 1965 class ring from Tanner High School led to the arrest Monday of James Lawson Hamilton, 26, of Section Line Road on a charge of first-degree theft, said Sheriff Mike Blakely. The ring and other items of jewelry were reported stolen July 14 from a home on O’Neal Road.

Authorities worked with Alabama Gold Buyers to recover the ring and other items. Since the spike in gold prices, Blakely said buyers typically are willing to help authorities track down stolen items.

“They’ve been pretty good about working with us,” he said.
