Clements scores a win in final game

HUNTSVILLE — From staff reports

Clements ended its season on a winning note with a 28-7 victory over John Paul II Catholic. The Colts jumped out to a 16-0 first quarter lead and never looked back in their first win of the season.

Demarcus Johnson made big plays on both sides of the ball for Clements. Johnson had two interception returns for touchdowns and carried the ball 21 times for 111 yards and a touchdown. The junior also led the team in receptions with three catches for 53 yards.

Johnson’s first defensive score was on Catholics’ first possession of the game. The instinctive DB picked off a pass and returned it 20 yards for a score. Colts quarterback Marcus McNaughton connected with Johnson on the ensuing two-point conversion to give Clements an 8-0 lead.

With less than a minute remaining the first quarter, Johnson punched it in from for yards out to give his team a two-score lead. McNaughton successfully converted the conversion with a pass to Tremaine Smith.

McNaughton extended Clements lead in the third quarter with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Marsh. The senior quarterback finished his last high school game completing 9 of 17 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.

Johnson sealed the win for Clements on the next drive when he picked off another pass and returned it 80 yards for a score. The versatile Johnson finished with eight tackles and a fumble recovery to go along with his two defensive scores.

Christian Wilson finished with nine tackles and an interception for Clements. Carson Cook added an interception and Justin White picked up a fumble to contribute in the win.

Clements finishes its season with a 1-9 record.
