An umpire was hospitalized Tuesday after being hit by a ball during an Elkmont middle school baseball game.
Standing behind home plate, Kent Long was hit in the chest by a pitch after the ball was tipped by the batter.
Long suffered seizure-like symptoms and was taken by MedFlight to Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was treated and released within an hour of being at the hospital, according to Billy Owens, director of the Limestone County Umpire Association.
