HANCEVILLE —
It wasn’t pretty.
Athens scraped and clawed for every loose ball and rebound for four quarters. In the end, effort and hustle alone were not enough in a 45-33 defeat to Parker.
“I feel like coming into the game, we were as good or better personal-wise. They just play a crazy style of basketball that we haven’t played against this year,” said Athens head coach Stace Tedford. “But that’s what works for them. I thought we started the game off with a lot of energy. It was a game of quarters. It’s hard to score 1-point in the second quarter and 6 in the fourth quarter and win the game.”
After limiting Parker to just four point in the first quarter, Athens managed to score just one-point the entire second quarter. Another dry spell in the fourth quarter allowed Parker to make a 24-4 run that put the game out of reach.
