No. 1 Tanner cruises to victory in Courtland

— Tanner jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 48-0 victory over R.A. Hubbard Friday. The Rattlers rushed for 383 yards behind big nights from Hayden Stephens, Fred Rich and Ronald Taylor.

Stephens carried the ball 10 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half while Taylor and Kyle Shoulders added touchdown runs in the second quarter to put the game away before halftime.

After Stephens scored a 28-yard touchdown run on the Rattler’s first drive, fullback Kyle Shoulders powered his way in from three yards out. On one of only two carries in the game, Taylor broke free for a 52-yard touchdown to give the visitors a 27-0. Following Allen Rios extra point, Tanner took a 34-0 lead into the break after a 60-yard Stephens TD run.

Quarterback Jonathan Fletcher kept things rolling in the third quarter with a 65-yard run. Fletcher finished the game completing 3-of -8 passing for 15 yards. Fred Rich finished with 13 carries for 76 and a touchdown while also having a big night on defense.

Rich and Rattler ‘D’ held Hubbard to 62 total yards including negative 19 through the air. It was Tanner’s second shut out of the season. The No.1 ranked Rattlers have allowed three touchdowns all season.

Tanner (5-0, 3-0) will host Colbert Heights next week for homecoming.
