Muscle Shoals jumped out to a 24-0 lead and never looked back as the Trojans cruised to a 38-3 win over Athens Friday. The Golden Eagles became the latest victims of Class 5A as the Trojans improved to 4-0 on the season.
Despite the lopsided loss, Athens did something that Deshler, Russellville and Lawrence County could not do against the Trojans this season: score. Harper Ward’s fourth quarter field goal were the first points Muscle Shoals defense has allowed through four games this season. The Trojans went 15 consecutive quarters without allowing a point.
A long fumble return set Athens up in Muscle Shoals territory and led to Ward’s 30-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. Athens (1-3, 1-2) will travel to Class 6A No. 7 Austin (4-0, 3-0) while Muscle Shoals (4-0, 3-0) will host Dora.
