No. 6 Lauderdale Co. downs Clements 48-14

— CLEMENTS — No. 6 Lauderdale County used its dominating rushing attack to put away Clements 48-14 in a Class 3A, Region 8 matchup Friday night at M.T. Newman Stadium.

Lauderdale County (4-0, 3-0), which manhandled No. 9 Deshler 21-7 last week, led 20-0 after the first quarter and 41-6 at halftime as the Tigers ran 27 times for 255 yards and six rushing scores in the first two periods.

Clements (0-4, 0-3), which exploded for 53 points in a season-opening loss to West Limestone but was held scoreless against West Morgan and Madison Academy, lit up the scoreboard midway through the second quarter when quarterback Marcus McNaughton found Demarcus Johnson for a 55-yard touchdown.

The Colts struck again in the fourth quarter as Jevon Buck broke away for a 32-yard score and McNaughton connected with Tremaine Smith for the 2-point conversion.

Johnson had four receptions for 66 yards and a TD, while Hayden Russell had two catches for 61 yards, including a key grab to keep the first scoring drive alive. McNaughton was 12 of 23 passing for 165 yards with one TD and an interception.

Clements hosts 4A Ardmore Friday in a non-region matchup as the Tigers lead the Colts 20-18-1 all-time in the cross-county rivalry, including wins in 2011 and 2010.

Lauderdale County travels to 4A Central-Florence Friday in a cross-county matchup.
