— A recap of how of local teams did Friday night:
Hartselle 23, Athens 8
Athens gave the No. 1 team in 5A all it wanted Friday. AHS led 8-7
entering the fourth quarter thanks to a forced safety and touchdown
catch by Johnnie Anderson. The Athens defense proved it has what it
takes to play anyone in 5A.
Westminster 40, Elkmont 14
Elkmont dropped its third consecutive game on the road to Westminster
in a Class 3A Region 8 contest. Despite falling behind 19-0 at
halftime, the Red Devils snapped a nine-quarter scoreless streak on
their first drive of the second half.
North Jackson 42, Ardmore 14
After giving up just 109 yards on the ground through the first two
weeks, Ardmore gave up more than 300 yards to North Jackson to suffer
its first loss of the season. The Tigers still have a shot to make the
playoffs with a home region game against Randolph Friday.
Tanner 67, Cherokee 7
Tanner led 35-0 after one quarter and 52-0 at halftime before pulling
its starters and cruising to a 67-7 win at Cherokee. The Rattlers had
three fumble returns for touchdowns and averaged more than 10 yards
per carry on the ground.
Central 61, West Limestone 14
West Limestone suffered its second consecutive blowout region loss on
the road to Central. Through three games this season, the Wildcats are
giving up an average of eight touchdowns per contest.
Russellville 37, East Limestone 14
East Limestone could not make it two in a row against a Russellville
team that had been shut out by Muscle Shoals the week before. East
will get consecutive home games against winless teams before traveling
to Athens Oct. 5.
Madison Academy 55, Clements 0
Clements was shut out for the second consecutive week, this time by
Class 3A No. 4 Madison Academy. The schedule doesn’t get any easier
for the Colts who host a Lauderdale County team that snapped Deshler’s
27-game region win streak last week.
By the numbers:
29
