ELKMONT — Junior running back Ryan Carpenter scored three rushing touchdowns for Colbert County in a 32-0 road victory over Class 3A, Region 8 rival Elkmont Friday night at Boss Hill Stadium.
Carpenter scored on runs of 44, 5 and 13 yards en route to 101 yards on 17 carries. Sergio Mendoza was 2-of-3 on PATs for the Indians, who had two failed two-point conversion plays.
Colbert County scored twice in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard TD pass from Samuel Howard to Colin King and a 60-yard punt return by Tobias Qualls.
Howard went 7 of 12 for 73 yards and a touchdown, while Elkmont signal-caller Bryant Wales was 5 of 11 for 44 yards and an interception.
The Indians (2-0, 1-0 Class 3A, Region 8) avenged a 17-0 loss to Elkmont last year by outgaining the Red Devils 280 yards to 127, including a 207-83 advantage in the ground game.
Sophomore running back/safety Chase Renew led the Red Devils (0-2, 0-1) with 30 yards on nine carries and had a fumble recovery, while junior linebacker Josh Ferrazas had seven tackles for Elkmont, which hasn’t started 0-2 since 2004.
Both teams continue region play next Friday as Elkmont travels to Westminster Christian and Colbert County plays at West Morgan.
