Malone leads Clements to finals

Clements senior reaches record six consecutive Limestone County Championship game

TANNER — High school coaches are tired of seeing Daneshia “Lou Lou” Malone at the Limestone County Tournament. The Clements senior will play in her sixth consecutive Limestone County Championship Saturday night after leading her team to a 51-43 victory over West Limestone in the semifinals.

Malone scored 23 points despite being double and triple teamed throughout Friday’s semifinal win. But overcoming extra attention has become the norm for the six-foot tall Clements center.

“This one means a lot,” Malone said about playing in her sixth straight county championship game. “The will be No. 6. I can’t wait.”

Malone has won the Limestone County Tournament since she stepped on the court as a seventh grader for Clements. But she is quick to give credit to her supporting cast after reaching yet another championship game.

Players like Cynetria Malone who chipped in 14 points. The point guard took advantage of the space given to her and Clements other player not named Malone.

Clements didn’t reach the final without a fight from West Limestone, however. The Lady Wildcats went on a 10-0 run close the first half and force a 19-19 tie at the break. Mitzi “Bugg” Grizzard led West Limestone with 14 points while Autumn Bates added 10.
