No. 1 Wenonah too tall for East Limestone

HANCEVILLE — On paper, it looked like a matchup problem and that is exactly what it turned out to be for East Limestone against Wenonah Tuesday at the Northwest Regional Tournament. The Indians could not compete with the size and speed of the state’s No.1 team, falling 87-56 at Wallace State.

“When you get here in the high school setting and your biggest player in 6-3 and you’re going against guys that are 6-9 and 6-11, it causes matchup problems,” said East Limestone head coach Chad Drake. “In practice, you can’t simulate. They play at a fast speed, but they are under control. They are just a good team.”

Wenonah showed why it’s the No. 1 team in the state, playing at a frenetic pace with proficient shooting and athletic dunks. The Dragons shot 43 percent from the field and forced 21 turnovers.
