Potts leads Athens past rival Indians

HUNTSVILLE — Nathaniel “Giddy” Potts scored 29 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as Athens edged East Limestone 55-54 in the Columbia Thanksgiving Tournament Wednesday. The junior scored 23 points in the second half coming off the bench in a loss to Grissom Tuesday.

The win was Athens first of the season. The two rivals will meet again in the regular season at East Limestone Tuesday.

West Limestone suffered another close loss in the Priceville Thanksgiving Tournament Wednesday in a one-point loss to West Morgan. The Wildcats had five players score in double figures, but could not overcome a slow first half.

West Morgan outscored West 43-32 in the opening two quarters before the Wildcats stormed back in the second half. Led by Kyle Casteel’s 23 points, West scored 27 points in the fourth quarter only to fall just short. Also scoring in double figures for West was Aaron McWilliams, Corey Appleton, Jacob Martin and Grant Baugher.

Brewer 53

West Limestone 51

A big second half helped Brewer get past West Limestone in the Priceville Thanksgiving tournament Tuesday. Brewer outscored West 33-23 in the second half to earn the win.

Grant Baugher scored 14 points and was 4 for 6 from three point range for West Limestone. Kyle Casteel added 13 points on four successful three point baskets and Jacob Martin added 9 points for West.
