Tanner and West Limestone’s girls basketball teams will host subregion basketball games Thursday after winning their respective area tournaments Saturday night.
Tanner outlasted host Lexington 40-38 in overtime to earn the right to stay at home for its playoff game Thursday.
Sydney Houston’s jumper with just seconds remaining on the clock was enough to give Tanner the win in overtime. Winning the area tournament means more than just hosting a playoff game as the Lady Rattlers will avoid playing a top-10 team on their way to the Northwest Regional at Wallace State Community College.
Class 2A, No. 4 Lexington will to travel to No. 5 Red Bay while Tanner will host Phil Campbell, which lost to Red Bay 42-19 Saturday.
West Limestone’s area championship was less dramatic, beating Central 48-26 to win its area championship for the second consecutive year. West Limestone will host Priceville Thursday for a chance to advance to the Northwest Regional at Wallace State.
Athens suffered a 49-43 defeat to Lawrence County Saturday night in its area championship and will travel to Cullman for a subregion game Thursday.
Here is the full schedule of Thursday’s subregion games in Limestone County:
Phil Campbell at Tanner, TBA
Priceville at West Limestone, TBA
Athens at Cullman, TBA
