Rattlers extend home win streak to 22

— TANNER — After a sluggish start, top-ranked Tanner scored 28 points in a span of 12 minutes as the Rattlers defeated Lexington 49-7 in a Class 2A, Region 8 matchup at Rip Swanner Field Friday night.

Tanner (4-0, 3-0), who has won 22 consecutive games at home and 30 regular-season victories in a row, avenged a 24-7 loss to the Golden Bears (1-3, 1-2) in 2009 by outgaining them 352 yards to 130, including a 245-89 advantage on the ground.

Rattlers running back Hayden Stephens had a career night as the junior racked up four touchdowns, including a 1-yard run in the first quarter, a 17-yard scamper in the second and a 55-yard romp in the third. Stephens, who had 113 yards on just 10 carries, also electrified the crowd on a third-quarter kickoff return when he burst up the middle and then raced down the sideline for an 85-yard touchdown.

Fullback Kyle Shoulders bulled in for a 5-yard TD run with 4:43 remaining in the second, quarterback Jonathan Fletcher found Desmond Love in the end zone for a 12-yard score with 2:50 left until halftime and Fred Rich added a 1-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Lexington’s lone score came with 5:47 remaining in the game when Caleb Vaughn scooted loose for a 46-yard TD and Spencer Adams booted the PAT.

Fletcher finished 6 of 8 passing for 70 yards and a touchdown, while Rich had 10 carries for 81 yards and one score. Freshman Allen Rios was 7 for 7 on extra-point attempts.

This Friday Tanner plays at 1A R.A. Hubbard, while Lexington travels to 4A Rogers.
