Torren Haley, East Limestone
Haley is the New Courier Player of the WeekTorren Haley, East Limestone: The senior, 6-foot, 2-inch running back rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-21 loss to Cullman Friday. Haley averaged more than 15 yards per carry as East Limestone kept the ball on the ground against the Bearcats. Haley scored in the first quarter on a 65-yard run and again on the first play of the second half on an 84-yard score. Other local standouts:
Tyler McCarley, Ardmore: McCarley had 20 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns in Ardmore’s 45-21 win over Butler Friday. McCarley scored touchdown runs of 4 and 8 yards in the first half. Zach Ellis, Ardmore:Zach Ellis, Ardmore: Ellis complemented McCarley with 13 carries for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Ellis scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the third quarter while adding a 13-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Fred Rich, TannerFred Rich, Tanner: The senior running back rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-0 win against Red Bay. Rich helped Tanner hold Red Bay to less than 100 yards of total offense. |

The 2013 North-South all-star girls and boys soccer teams for the 17th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week competition were announced Monday by Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA).

Ardmore junior Lee Hodges finished in the top five after the first day of the AHSAA state golf championships in Muscle Shoals.
He finished the day tied for third with an even par 72 on 18 holes at the Shoals Golf Course. -
