Local runners take on Chickasaw Trails

— West Limestone’s boys cross-country team ran to a sixth-place finish at the Chickasaw Trails cross-country race at the Oakville Indian Mounds Saturday morning. The Wildcats had four runners in the top 60 in one of the largest annual meets in the state.

West were led by Ramon Quiroz, who finished 26th out of more than 300 runners with a time of 18:44 in the 5k race. Limestone County’s top runner was Elkmont’s Tyler Helms, who finished in eighth overall in the Class 1A – 4A boys race with a time of 17:51. Helms helped Elkmont to an 11th place finish while Athens Bible finished in 13th and Clements 26th out of 39 teams in the race.

Clements’ top runner, Mack VanWagnen finished 10th overall with a time of 18:38. Dalton Adams was Athens Bible’s top runner with a time of 20:00.

In the large schools boys race, Tate Carden helped Athens to a 14th-place finish with a time of 17:27. Brock Jergins (18:19) and Andrew Sulcer (19:06) were Athens other top runners.

East Limestone finished 20th behind runners Fred Stephens (18:59) and Michael Mitcher (19:10), who both finished in the top 100 runners in the race.

In the small schools girls race, Elkmont’s Samantha Pressnell was the county’s top runner with a time of 22:57. West was No.1 among Limestone County teams with a 20th place finish. Alexis Allen (23:56) was the Wildcats’ top runner. Anna Persell with a time of 24:02 was Athens Bible’s top finisher while Peyton Randolph finished in the top 150 for Ardmore.

Lindsey Martin was Athens top runner in the large schools girls race.
