Athens Police sent officers and squad cars to the Walmart on U.S. 72 in Athens Thursday in preparation for large crowds at the store on Black Friday. Electronic devices were again the hot items this year, as crowds across the country waited in lines for flat-screen televisions, iPads and the relaunched Furby. On Saturday, smaller retailers had the opportunity to participate in Small Business Saturday. American Express created the day three years ago to help small businesses struggling during the recession.
