Mitchell and Janis Binford of Elkmont and William and Geneva Hicks of Westland, Mich., celebrated their 60th anniversaries Aug. 29, 2009, at Westside Community Center in Athens. The celebration was hosted by the Binford children. The couples were married in a double ceremony Aug. 27, 1949, at the home of the Rev. Brooks in Athens. Mr. and Mrs. Binford have five children, Sharon Grigsby of Elkmont, Mildred Grizzard of Athens, Mitchell Jr., Derek, Kenneth Binford of Cincinnati, Ohio, and the late Otis Glenn Cain; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Hicks have two children, Thomas Hicks of Las Vegas, Nev., and the late Larry Hicks; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
