Martha and James Newby of Athens celebrated their 65th anniversary May 9 at a family dinner. The celebration was hosted by their children. Mr. and Mrs. Newby were married May9, 1944, in Athens. They have three children, Jimmy Newby and wife Martha, Jerry Newby and wife Dianne, and Susan Ming and husband Bill; and nine grandchildren, John Newby, Leigh Anne Toone, James Newby, Elizabeth Newby, Mary Anna Newby, Jerry Allen Newby, William Ming, Elizabeth Ming and Sarah Ming.
